It's been quite awhile since Hal and I had a date night. Sneaking Chipotle into the movie theater doesn't count. We do that too often to call it a date. So we got creative and found the perfect romantic out-of-the-ordinary evening... burlesque!
Through The Looking Glass, the burlesque version of Alice In Wonderland, was playing at one of our favorite music venues, The Triple Door in downtown Seattle. Done and done.
We love burlesque. One of our favorite stories to tell at dinner parties is the time Hal unhooked Jo Boobs' bra during a performance with one hand only. I was initially horrified. But without me seeing, she had motioned for him to do so. The crowd went wild and my shock quickly turned to pride. That's my man!
The Triple Door is the most beautiful and intimate venue with an awesome history dating back to 1920's vaudeville. It was restored to an classy dinner theater in 1999, and every seat in the house has an impressive view of the stage.
They serve food and drinks from the upstairs Southeast-Asian restaurant, Wild Ginger. I ordered a gin martini with house-made pickles (surprisingly good) and a delectable meal of buddha spring rolls with pineapple sauce, and ramu setu curry with eggplant, potatoes & tofu. A hot n' spicy meal for a hot n' spicy show...
My favorite acts involved a super steamy dance by Catepillar and her male companion metamorphasizing into butterflies. And a delightfully shocking scene in which Cheshire Cat bathed in a life-sized martini glass filled with milk! I chose PG-rated photos for the blog, but if you're feeling saucy... here are the rest. It was the best date we've had in a long while.
Sadly for you local lovelies, the show has run it's course for the year. But Land of the Sweets, the burlesque Nutcracker, will be performing in December, which you won't want to miss. We saw it a few years ago and it does not disappoint.
How about you - are you a fan of burlesque?
