Ever since my Level I and II Reiki certification, I've gotten a few requests to expand on the topic and discuss what I've learned. I would love nothing more than to share my healing journey with you. In just a few short months, Reiki has opened my eyes to a new and beautiful way of life.
If you're unfamiliar, Reiki is an ancient Japanese method of healing, relaxation, and stress reduction, using an unseen life force energy that flows through each and every one of us. If our life force energy is low, we're more likely to feel stress or get sick. If it's high, we're more capable of feeling happy, healthy and strong. I like to think of Reiki as love. Pure universal love that connects us all.
The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.
– Helen Keller
My mom and I attended the class together, unsure of what we were getting ourselves into. Unsure of our abilities and to be honest, worried that it wouldn't work for us. But we soon learned that it's not dependent on one having prior experience with healing, meditation or special training. Reiki has been successfully used by over one million people from all walks of life, young an old. And it's slowly becoming a widely-accepted form of complimentary healing in hospitals around the world. Reiki can be used to treat any physical, emotional or mental ailment, ranging from minor aches and pains to anxiety and depression to terminal diseases and cancer.
We were attuned to the energy by a Reiki Master and learned how to give Reiki to ourselves and to others by placing our hands over the body in a series of positions. The energy flows through the practitioner hands into the patient, going directly where it needs it most. Amazingly, Reiki doesn't have to be done in person. Distance Reiki can be given to others who are in another room, another city, or thousands of miles away, it makes no difference. It's said to be equally as powerful as hands-on touch.
Healing... is not a science, but the intuitive art of wooing nature.
- W.H. Auden
You may remember, it was my kitty who inspired me to learn Reiki last summer. She was terminally ill and I was told that animals respond very well treatments. They seem to have an instinctive understanding of Reiki and after one session, will often come back to you for more. Although I wasn't attuned at the time, I'd like to think I helped ease her pain during her final days.
Receiving a Reiki treatment usually gives you a feeling of deep relaxation. Drifting off to sleep is fairly common. Sometimes, you'll experience a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through your entire body. Or a hot or cool tingling sensation in certain areas that need attention. Immediately after a session, I often feel refreshed, positive and balanced.
Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn't you - all of the expectations, all of the beliefs - and becoming who you are.
- Rachel Naomi Remen
Healing yourself the the best way to effortlessly heal others. I try to self-heal for 10 to 15 minutes before going to bed each night. And In the brief few months that I've been practicing, I've noticed a decrease in my overall stress level. I seem to have less worries. And ladies, on a scale of 1 to 10, my monthly menstrual cramp pain went from an 8 to a 2! No lie.
The more Reiki you give, the more powerful it becomes. I give treatments to Hal, which he skeptically agrees to, yet I think he secretly loves. My mom and I treat each other when I go home to visit. And we've done a 2-person session on my dad. But to step out of my comfort zone, I'd love to practice on people outside of my family.
So dear readers... Would you like to receive a free distance Reiki treatment? I won't have time to work with everyone, so I'll be accepting the first few individuals who email me first. I look forward to hearing from you. This will be fun! When I get my Level III Master training, I'll be able to teach you how to heal yourself, so that you may teach others to do the same. This, I believe, is the key to healing the world.
Eventually you will come to realize that love heals everything,
and love is all there is.
