It feels like it's been awhile since the last wedding series post! To refresh your memory, I left you hanging at the end of the ceremony. We exited down the steps onto the dock, waved goodbye to our guests, and climbed aboard our getaway vehicle. An old rowboat! My dad gently nudged us out to sea as husband and wife.
I shared a sneak peek of a few of these shots when Heather posted them on her blog. If you missed them, go and take a look. Today, I'll reveal the rest, with a funny behind-the-scenes story.
Meet Jordan, Hal's buddy and handsome coxswain of the OTHER boat. We had a second rowboat to hold Jon and Steve, the media team. As you'll soon find out, Heather smartly remained on shore.
As a child, I spent many memorable summers on these waters, paddling around in the canoe with my family. It was such a treat to be able to experience this again, with my love on our wedding day.
It was around this time that Hal and Jordan decided to race. Silly boys. It was also around this time that Jordan, Jon and Steve noticed that their boat was leaking! My dad warned us that one of the rowboats was nearing the end of days. Thankfully, Hal and I chose the solid one.
Hal and I wrote our vows to each other on large pieces of paper folded into wish boats. We intended to release them into the lagoon as a symbolic gesture. It was a sweet idea in theory, but there were a few minor flaws. After discovering the other rowboat was sinking, we realized we forgot the paper boats on land! My dad had to run to retrieve them and relay them back to us.
When released, the boats didn't float away as beautifully as they did in my imagination. The current tipped them over and pushed them against the boat in a sad state. Wah wah. It was quite hysterical.
From the water, we heard the band playing and our guests enjoying the cocktail hour. We were itching to partake in the festivities, so we swiftly rowed back before the tide left us stranded. My dad tied up the boat and escorted us up the steps to join our friends and family.
NEXT WEEK... the DESIGN DETAILS.
