I knew that Hindus celebrated Holi (Festival of Colors) on the first full moon in March to announce the arrival of spring. But I wasn't sure how the powder came into play. Apparently, Krishna would flirt with all the young women tending cows (gopis) by spraying them with colored water. I love it. Reminds me of kindergarten.
Holi is spreading around the world as a way unite all races and religions with a feeling of oneness and social harmony, as light and dark skin colors quickly disappear under layers of green, red, purple, and blue powders. These photos were taken in Berlin last year. And Los Angeles celebrated this past weekend.
Have you ever been to a Holi fest? I'm dying to partake. Or perhaps I'll just throw a smaller-sized Holi of my own!
