DIY - Chalkboard Cheese Platters

While in San Fran, my girl Robin put out the best smörgåsbord of cheese. We're talking cheese with truffles and rosemary and all that fancy stuff. She knows me so well.

I've always fawned over chalkboard platters where you can write down the type of cheese right next to it. Never realized how easy it is to make your own with a porcelain tray and special chalkboard paint! Lookie here...

Portlandia

Now that Portlandia is available on instant Netflix, we finally got a chance to watch it last night. As as much as I didn't want to give into the hype, they do a pretty hilarious job of spoofing hipster culture.

P.S. Did you know they're touring? Starting on January 6th, they're traveling to Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York to give us live musical performances and clips from upcoming episodes. Sadly, all dates are sold out!

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

Thank you all for your wonderful book club suggestions awhile back. We ended up selecting Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. I finished reading it last night and I'm still a bit teary-eyed.

Most of the book is written from the point of view a whip smart and overly imaginative little boy who is on a secret NYC mission to find some sort of meaning behind his father's 9-11 death. His character is so endearing, I wanted to pluck him out of the pages and make him my own. The movie is now out, but I've been told to skip it. Have you read the book? Or watched the film?

If pipe cleaners weren't invented to clean pipes, I would have thought they were made especially for crowns. I'm thinking these would look adorbs on my future flower girl / ring bearer parade.

A Wooden Peppermill Collection

If you had 70 rare Danish mid-century teak peppermills by Dansk co-founder Jens Quistgaard, would you sell the collection? I sure wouldn't! Unless I was hurting for a large chunk of cash I suppose. Sam Kaufman is offering it up on 1stDibs for $21,000. At least it comes with a super cool wall display.

I've always had a thing for wooden peppermills. They're more like beautiful table sculptures, don't you agree?

2012 Resolutions

Oh, how I've missed you! I don't normally take such a long blog vacation, but I'm glad I did. I feel refreshed, energized and inspired. Ready to tackle 2012!

How was your NYE? Hal and I traveled to San Francisco to visit my maid of honor and her fiance. We stayed in and cooked a delicious Spanish feast with blueberry bubbly, watched a Ghostbusters marathon, threw a 4-person living room dance party, and after the countdown, partook in a lively session of YouTube karaoke until 3am. It was one of the best New Years I've had in awhile. I don't think I ever want to brave the crowds and clubs again.

And now it's time to start thinking of some resolutions! What are your goals for the new year?
